Entry #2.1 – December 2008

Six months later.

Investigation of subjects implicated by data in Larson’s possession has born little fruit. After Larson’s defection from Utopia all the rats have crawled back into their holes. Key sites have been sanitised. They are quite thorough. All I have found is a scrap of paper bearing the imprint of a name, Nathan Spats. As yet this piece of the puzzle remains separated from its place in the larger design.

Storm Queen wants to meet. Figure it’s worth going even though I don’t know what it’s about. Could have asked her but I can’t be certain she would not have tried to deceive me. I’ll find out soon enough.

Entry #2.3 – December 2008

Kept appointment. Leviathan and Sapphire were there along with J.J., Storm Queen and some guy I’d never met before called Cobalt. Leviathan thinks we should be interested in the disappearance of three young children from a nearby orphanage but he doesn’t say why. He tried to use his friendship with Creed to give us the impression that we were allies but it didn’t fool me. He’s using us. Whitelaw and this Cobalt friend of hers are too blinded by their quaint notion of morality to see through the deception and J.J. was strangely silent. Perhaps like me he consented in order to find out more.

Visited orphanage. While Jo and Cobalt interviewed the staff I checked the perimeter. Not surprisingly security is a joke. It’s a wonder that more kids haven’t gone missing.

Entry #2.5 – December 2008

Strange.. J.J. has commented on a number of occasions that he believes we are fulfilling Creed’s last wish. I don’t know why he thinks that I would find this of some significance. In fact I am surprised to discover that Stone’s reasons for participating in the investigation are sentimental. In the past he has always appeared to be motivated by financial gain and unmoved by such emotional foolishness. I find it vaguely unsettling to discover that someone with his abilities is not as predictable as I imagined.

If I had my last wish it would be to ask that the world’s drains scab over and the gutters fill with blood and all the human vermin, the murderers and rapists, the pimps and lechers, the politicians, all of them would drown. Their filth would foam up about their waists and they would be sucked down into bloody hell where they belong.

Entry #2.6 – December 2008

Concluded largely pointless information gathering expedition to Havana. Jo and Cobalt have discovered a number of similarities between the four missing boys including the fact that they were all genetically enhanced. It is no coincidence that two of the individuals who we have identified as having had contact with the children were murdered in New York two nights ago. The evidence appears to indicate someone has been tidying up loose ends. Perhaps there is something to this after all.

We will return to New York to continue the investigation.

Entry #2.7 – December 2008

Much has changed. Followed paper trail to warehouse where we found the missing boys and their abductor Dr. Herman Schultz. An experiment was in progress. Schultz claimed he had developed a means to remove Nova potential. Seemed to consider procedure was a cure. Was playing god. Would have liked to educate him regarding ethics of recent actions but others had fallen for pompous humanitarian rhetoric. Only fact that lives of subjects were in jeopardy prevented me from sending him to meet his maker.

J.J, Storm Queen and Cobalt assisted with completion of experiment.

Entry #2.8 – December 2008

Children survived. Apparently experiment was success.

Colleagues appeared to feel importance of scientific discovery outweighed crimes perpetrated to obtain it. Do not agree. Perhaps Nazi’s would consider this sufficiently justified pioneering work done during 1940s. Morality cannot be compromised. Schultz should be punished. Annoying that Stone spirited him away before I could intervene. Is now in custody of Directive. Resolution is unsatisfactory. Oversight must be corrected.

Children are returned to orphanage. Treated to Stone making most of PR opportunity by playing Santa. All live happily ever after.

Entry #2.9 – December 2008

Have discovered Schultz and Nathan Spats were colleagues. Worked for Triton Foundation in Havana. Knowledge makes fact that Schultz evaded justice even more irritating. Casts doubt on reasons for experiment.
